The first stage of the OPEN CALL FOR ART AT THE CONSULATE 2024 took place on July 10, with the participation of Brazilian artists ELISA WUO and BETTA SANTINI. The initiative opens spaces for the exhibition of artistic pieces in the public service area, in the consul general’s office and in meeting rooms of the Consulate General, where they can be seen by consultants and other visitors.
Elisa Wuo, born in São Paulo, graduated in Art Education and a Bachelor’s degree from the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation, FAAP (São Paulo, Brazil). In 1996, she moved to Florida (USA), where she lives and works. Wuo has been exploring more intimate paintings on a smaller scale, on canvas and paper. The painting is made by superimposing layers of the various procedures that occur during the act of painting. The nature of her work lies in the creative process itself and in the dialogue between the image and the reflection.
Betta Santini was born in São Paulo, graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Fine Arts and completed postgraduate studies at the Panamerican School of Arts, the Italian International Institute, and Sotheby’s Institute of Art. In 2015, she moved to the United States, where she currently lives and works. Santini is a versatile artist, specializing in glass sculpture, painting, and digital media. The fascination of glass as a working material, with its transparent appearance and dual nature of fragility and resistance, has defined the artist’s career from a very young age.
